EL CERRITO

North of Berkeley and Albany, you’ll find El Cerrito, a city founded by refugees from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. El Cerrito, at 4 square miles, can have great views of the Bay and is known for its more affordable homes. Bustling with activity, El Cerrito Plaza is the de facto city center, with a BART station and several farmers markets.

The El Cerrito “flats” feature more modest homes, while “the hills” tend to feature more stately residences. The typical styles include Mid-Century Modern, cottage, and contemporary homes. 

Commuting to and from El Cerrito is easy! Interstate I-80/580 runs along the city, and it is home to two BART stations. The transbay buses will also get you back and forth to San Francisco.
